7 best brunch spots in Zagreb

Brunch is breakfast without an alarm clock aka the best kind of breakfast. The one where your french toast or poached eggs accompanied by a glass of prosecco or a mimosa will not be frowned upon. So, next weekend (or on a weekday if you’re lucky) when you decide to dress up before noon, hit one of the places from our list and treat yourself. Remember, brunch is always a good idea.

Avo toasts and daily specials, whatever you choose here you cannot go wrong. There’s a reason why this place is always full. If you can’t find a free table for brunch, don’t worry. They serve lunch and dinner as well, but are closed Sundays.

Choco cafe

Choco cafe finally opened its doors in the city center. Now you can enjoy their omelettes, club sandwiches, sweet and savory pancakes and salads in Teslina street. If you’re in the mood for something more traditional – try štrukli, a popular traditional Croatian dish composed of dough and various types of filling (sweet or savory, your choice).

Great coffee and a decent wine list paired with a lovely selection of always fresh sandwiches, focaccias, pates and cheese plates, cocktails, sweets… We could go on and on. Lovely, lively atmosphere and friendly staff are only a bonus.

If you’re a #yolkporn aficionado like yours truly, this is a place that will get you EGGcited. Eggs Benedict, Florentine, Shakshuka… poached eggs and omelettes for days. Oh, and then there’s the traditional English breakfast aka Br-EGG-xit. You’re welcome.

The first place that served American-style pancakes and club sandwiches upped their game in the recent months. Besides the traditional English breakfasts, eggs sunny side up and toasts, they also serve burgers, lasagna and Argentinian empanadas with a bulgur salad and fries on the side. Who needs lunch with such a filling brunch, am I right?

Le Mika

Le Mika

I may not speak French but I do speak French galettes, especially when these buckwheat crepes are filled with ratatouille, a selection of fine cheeses or salmon. Pair it with a nice glass of wine and – voilà!

Otto & Frank

They poach the eggs perfectly and then deep-fry them until they’re crispy on the outside and still remain utterly delicious and gooey on the inside. This #foodporn is served on a slice of bread with grilled ham, radish, spring onions, fresh cottage cheese, sour cream and horseradish and call it the modern version of a traditional Zagreb breakfast. They also have a lunch menu, French toasts, burgers…

Did you favorite brunch place make the cut? Let me know!
